Things to see and do
Ah, a holiday in France ..
Relax, feel the sun on your face in your own private garden, enjoy a beer or a glass of wine and then .. well, what takes your fancy?
There's an awful lot of stuff going on around La Galerie!
Walking, cycling, bird-watching, swimming, eating, wine-tasting, sight-seeing,
camera lessons, music festivals, kayaking, horse-riding, farmers' markets,
chateaux, punt-rides, star-gazing, fun-days, shopping ..
You can do it all from your base in Loubillé.
Let's start with a couple of our favourite restaurants ..
The first - basic but brilliant - is Entre-Potes, right here in Loubillé.
There's also the lovely 'Auberge du Noyer' Bar & Restaurant,
a great 'pub' with live music about 25 minutes away near Ruffec.
Check it out here ..

You can splash out at 'Plan D'eau', a lovely free swimming and picnic area
just a 10 minute drive from the gîte.
We get some of the best dark-sky nights here in Deux-Sèvres,
ideal for an evening of travel through the cosmos.
You can also pop along to our friend Sue at AstroFarm
for a night with their incredible telescopes.

Get up close and personal with hundreds of monkeys, chimps and apes.
La Vallée de Singes is less than an hour away.
Adventure and excitement
The wonderful Futuroscope Theme Park is only an hour from La Galerie,
and the amazing Puy du Fou Historical show is just 2 hours drive.
The magical prehistoric cave-paintings of Lascaux and others
are only a couple of hours drive away.
There are subjects for your camera everywhere you look.
Landscapes, sunsets, market scenes, flowers.
Or why not take a day's workshop with a professional photographer?
Camping and Nature

You could also visit the delightful Venise-Verte at Coulon, near Niort,
for some kayaking and punting down delightful canals ..
.. and we can personally highly recommend the beautiful Aire de Rejallent, just 30 minutes away in Condac with picnic areas and trails along the Charente river.
Hitting the town!
We're close to the gorgeous cities of
Angoulême, Bordeaux, Ruffec, Melle, Poitiers, Cognac, Niort and La Rochelle,
with shopping, farmers' markets, culture, history, beaches, sights,
museums, bars, art-galleries, wine-tasting, chateaux .. the list is endless.
In this village, just an hour from La Galerie, 642 men, women and children were massacred by the Nazis in 1944. As a mark of respect, the streets have been left exactly as they were on that awful day.
A poignant, reflective visit is highly recommended.
